July 16, 2014 - 6:55pm

SASKATOON, Sask. -- Scott Steckly blistered a track-record lap Wednesday afternoon at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway for the evening's Velocity Prairie Thunder 250.

It is the first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 pole for Steckly at the .333-mile progressively-banked oval where he's won twice.

Steckly's No. 22 Canadian Tire/Jumpstart Dodge posted a lap of 14.616 seconds (82.020 mph). That eclipsed the record of 14.665 (81.801) set by JR Fitzpatrick in July of 2012. Steckly has 13 career poles in the series in 92 starts.

Steve Mathews qualified second at 14.765 (81.192) and Andrew Ranger, who has won the last two series races, qualified third at 14.774 (81.143).

LD Dumoulin and Jason Hathaway qualified fourth and fifth, respectively.

Alex Tagliani, who was involved in a wreck during practice earlier in the day, qualified sixth. Noel Dowler, Joey McColm, James Van Domselaaar and Mark Dilley completed the top 10.

The Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 is set to go green at 7:30 p.m. MT
