PIT STOP: American Speed In England

Weekend Info - Touring & Weekly Schedules, Links & Notes
By Jason Christley, NASCAR
June 4, 2014 - 6:00am

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

• Ander Vilarino has won three of the last four races the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series has run at England’s historic Brands Hatch, and he’ll need a similar top performance this weekend to overcome his first race woes. The two-time series champ did bounce back from a wreck in the opener at Valencia with a win in the second race, but heads to the United Kingdom eighth in points. Belgian teammates Bert Longin and Anthony Kumpen are atop the standings, with Eddie Cheever III close behind in third. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series runs the 1.198-mile, six-tune course – which allows fans a view of the action from virtually any vantage point.

• The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour hopes third time is the charm as the tour hosts TSI Harley-Davidson 125 at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway on Friday. The first two attempts on the half-mile asphalt oval have been rained out. Qualifying for the event is already complete, with Bobby Santos earning the Coors Light Pole Award two weeks ago. Friday night’s event will be the second of four at Stafford this season, and the first of two under the lights.

• Series veterans Rogelio López and Rubén Pardo have earned trips to Victory Lane in the last two NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series races and the series heads back to Mexico City Sunday for the Mexico 240, the second of two dates in the capital. NASCAR Next alum Daniel Suárez is the only driver with more than one win this season and leads the standings over Antonio Pérez and Pardo.
