WHAT TO WATCH FOR

• Friday will mark the first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event at Watkins Glen International since the 2009 season, when Ryan Truex drove to Victory Lane. Ben Rhodes has a 71-point advantage on Cameron Hayley entering the 13th of 16 events. Two NASCAR Whelen Euro Series regulars, two-time NASCAR Euro series champion Ander Vilarino and 2013 championship runner-up Frederic Gabillon, also will compete at The Glen.
• The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is set to begin the second half of its 14-race campaign with the third of four events at Stafford Motor Speedway. Championship leader Doug Coby has won the Call Before You Dig 811 150 in each of the two previous seasons, and was victorious in the tour’s last visit to the historic half-mile in early June. Coby and Bobby Santos, who won the first 2014 Stafford race, have combined to take the checkered flag in 11 of the last 17 events there.
• The JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours will be the eighth appearance for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 in the prestigious Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres, an annual racing festival through the streets of Trois-Rivieres that is celebrating its 45th running in 2014. Trois-Rivieres’ own L.P. Dumoulin leads the championship standings entering his hometown race, and will have to contend with fellow Quebec native Andrew Ranger, who has won four of the previous seven GP3R events. Formula Drift multi-time champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. will make his NASCAR debut at Trois-Rivieres.

Jim passed away in November 2013. “It is with great emotion that we move to change the name of this event to honor our father as everyone knew him and his incredible contribution to racing,” said Jerry Nuckles. The newly re-named Jim Nuckles Memorial will be contested Saturday night and will feature a 75 lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late model feature event along with extended feature racing action and the Columbus modified, sport stock and crazy compact divisions.
