WHAT TO WATCH FOR

• The NASCAR Next 2014 – 15 class will be announced Friday at noon in Victory Lane at Richmond International Raceway (RIR). The program is an industry initiative designed to spotlight the sport’s rising stars. Since the program began in 2011, more than half of the participants have raced at the national series level, and more than one-third are racing full time at that level this season. Notable alumni include Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Dylan Kwasniewski and Darrell Wallace Jr.

• Ben Rhodes has used three top fives in four races to climb to the top of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings as the series heads to RIR Friday night for the BLUE OX 100. Rhodes, a Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate, competed at RIR last year but finished 35th due to engine issues. Rev Racing’s Daniel Suarez already has two wins this year and trails Rhodes by just seven points. Gray Gaulding, who led a race-high 53 laps at RIR last year, sits third in points.

• Justin Bonsignore looks to become the first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver to win the season’s first two races since Ted Christopher in 2009 when the tour races the NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler 200 at Stafford Motor Speedway Sunday.

• South Boston (Va.) Speedway will host the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown Thursday. The invitation-only, non-points event will feature Late Models, and the entry list includes Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth facing off against some of the best short-track Late Model racers in the southeast.
