PRACTICE: Civali Head Of The Class

Qualifying For UNOH Perfect Storm 150 Set For 2:45 p.m.

BRISTOL, Tenn. – James Civali led the way through two practice sessions Wednesday morning at Bristol Motor Speedway in advance of the UNOH Perfect Storm 150 NASCAR Whelen Modified and Whelen Southern Modified Tour combination race.

Civali laid down a fast lap of 14.785 seconds (129.780 mph) in the 50-minute final practice, the quickest lap of any driver in either session. The Meriden, Conn., driver also posted the fastest lap in the 110-minute first practice of the day at 14.903 (128.753).

Civali was followed on the speed chart in the first practice by Tim Brown (14.996/127.954), Chuck Hossfeld (15.013/127.809), Justin Bonsignore (15.014/127.801) and Ron Silk (15.016/127.784).

The final practice session saw Frank Fleming (14.974/128.142), Bobby Santos (14.986/128.040), Bonsignore (14.987/128.031) and Burt Myers (14.996/127.954) follow Civali.

Whelen Modified Tour points leader Ted Christopher was 17th on the chart in the first practice and 10th in the second while Whelen Southern Modified Tour leader L.W. Miller ranked 15th and 16th, respectively. Miller suffered a minor crash in the first practice.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Ryan Newman, who won the Whelen Modified Tour’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in June, was ninth-fastest in first practice and seventh in the second session.

Qualifying for the UNOH Perfect Storm 150 is set for 2:45 p.m., and the race is slated for a 6 p.m., green flag live on SPEED.
