Thiévin reduces championship gap

LE MANS, France -- The Euro-Racecar Touring Series Elite Division sprint race saw a debut victory for Gaël Castelli but, with the newcomer not eligible for points, Romain Thievin took a maximum score to reduce the deficit to NASCAR championship leader Ander Vilarino. The Spaniard took seventh in a race played out on a wet Le Mans Bugatti circuit, building the suspense ahead of this afternoon’s final reckoning.

The title contenders will leave nothing on the table in an effort to become the inaugural Euro-Racecar champions when the series shares a bill with the FIA European Truck Racing event.

Vilarino Victorious On Home Turf

VALENCIA, Spain - Spanish racer Ander Vilarino has taken victory at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, beating Javier Villa and Roman Thievin to record his fifth win of the season as the championship top-three locked out the podium.
 
Starting second on the grid behind Javier Villa (#64 Gonneau Racing), Vilarino (#2 TFT-Banco Santander) took control of the race at the first corner. However, after dominating the opening laps he was forced to defend in the closing stages as his fellow countryman Villa launched a late charge.

VALENCIA, Spain - Qualifying for the semi-finals of the 2012 EURO-RACECAR NASCAR Touring Series was dominated by the championship’s Spanish contingent as Javier Villa and Ander Vilarino locked out the Elite division front row. Meanwhile Simon Escallier secured top spot in the Open class as the sun remained hidden at the Iberian circuit, with showers greeting the competitors.

BLOIS, France – Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia will host a NASCAR Euro-Racecar event for the first time on September 28-30. Just like the season finale at Le Mans (Oct. 12-14), the semifinals in Spain will count for double points.

Both Elite and Open division titles are still up for grabs, prompting some drivers, depending on their ranking, to race conservatively with the championship in mind while others may go all out for victory. But one objective always remains the same – be fast.

Euro-Racecar Champ Hélary To Enter G-Oil 100 At NHMS With New European Team

Official Release

BLOIS, France – Eric Hélary will enter the G-Oil 100 NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., on Sept. 22 as his reward for securing the 2011 Racecar Euro Series championship.

The Frenchman will campaign a Chevrolet for Team FJ’s newly acquired outfit in what is a curtain raiser to the top-tier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, further solidifying the Euro-Racecar NASCAR Touring Series’ status as the starting point for European drivers looking to compete in the United States.

Most Popular Driver Voting Begins Online

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Online voting is underway for the Most Popular Driver of the Year Award in the Euro-Racecar Series (Twitter hashtag: #EuroRC).

The link to the 2012 Euro-Racecar Series Most Popular Driver ballot is being hosted on www.nascarhometracks.com. Fans may vote once per day and are encouraged to vote throughout the season. Voting continues through Nov. 18.

FRIDAY FEATURE: A France First

Ben Kennedy figured the best way to celebrate one of America's signature holidays was by taking one of America's signature passions – NASCAR racing – overseas.

And celebrate he did.

The 20-year-old Kennedy flew to France last week to participate in the Tours 100, the first NASCAR-sanctioned oval race ever held in the NASCAR Euro-Racecar Series.  Not only did Kennedy show up to compete, but he won his first career race sanctioned by the organization his great grandfather created.
