Year In Review: Mexico Series

Before closing the book on 2011, let’s take a final look back at a few of the top moments for the NASCAR Mexico Series presented by Toyota.

It was a season that ended with a familiar face, but began with a pair of brothers getting fast starts. It was a season with tremendous competition, but a points race that ended rather abruptly. Also, it had a rookie with a strong pedigree and a streaky driver who dominated the summer months.

Champions Honored In Awards Gala

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Past, present and future were celebrated Saturday night at the NASCAR Hall of Fame as the six champions from NASCAR’s developmental series were honored in the Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala.

The festivities featured the champions and top drivers from all of NASCAR’s North American regional touring series, who gathered for the special year-end celebration.

Quiroga Making His Mark

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – German Quiroga is trying to show people that the NASCAR Mexico Series can be a proving ground for the next wave of NASCAR stars.

Quiroga was recognized along with five other NASCAR touring series champions at the Grand Champions Awards ceremony Charlotte Convention Center on Saturday morning. Quiroga, who made two Camping World Truck Series starts this season, won his third consecutive Mexico Series title in 2011.

Gresham Grabs Karting Crown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Max Gresham added another trophy to his mantle on Wednesday after winning the Fourth Annual NASCAR Touring & Weekly Series Champions/Media Karting Challenge as Champions Week got into full swing.

Gresham, the reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion, started dead last in the 14-kart field and took the lead with just under two minutes remaining in the 15-minute contest at Charlotte’s Victory Lane Indoor Karting that pitted the seven NASCAR champions in town for the week against members of the local media.

CHAMPION PROFILE: Three For Quiroga

The name of Germán Quiroga is becoming synonymous with the most consistent driver in NASCAR Mexico Series history. Over the last five seasons, he has scored the last three championships and finished as the runner-up for the 2007 and 2008 seasons as he chases his dream of becoming the first Mexican-born driver to compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Monica Morales is no stranger to motorsports. Her family has been involved in the racing world for many years. Her brother, Jimmy Morales, has competed in national and international championships while sporting the Mexican flag atop his vehicle.

Morales is in charge of all aspects for the No. 2 TELCEL/FedEx Dodge team driven by three-time NASCAR Mexico Series champion Germán Quiroga. Her leadership is the backbone of the confidence and great teamwork exemplified resulting in those three title-winning seasons.
