BAKERSFILED, Calif. - Following a 2016 rookie season in which he tallied ten top-10 finishes in fourteen appearances, rising star Blaine Perkins has confirmed he will once again partner with Steve Portenga Racing for a fulltime return to NASCAR K&N Pro Series West competition in 2017.

The partnership will allow the former Late Model and Modified competitor the opportunity to showcase all that he learned during a successful freshman campaign that took his Golden Gate Meat Company/Four Star Fruit-backed outfit clear across the Western United States en route to a 9th place finish in the final series points standings.

"I walked into last season knowing it was going to be an experience - but I had no idea how much I was going to learn," says Perkins when asked to describe his first year with the team. "Going out on the road was one of the best things that have ever happened to me. We picked up some important lessons as a team that are only going to make us better moving forward"

The first-generation racer entered last season having graduated from the Irwindale Speedway Late Model ranks, having spent limited time behind the wheel of the much heavier NASCAR K&N Series cars.

"Knowing what I do now, I can't help but think we're going to have a huge year," explains the Bakersfield, CA native. "2016 was all about learning as much as I could in a short amount of time. I made my fair share of mistakes, but every single one of them has made me better. I understand these cars a lot more now, I have a lot more patience and I've matured a lot away from the track"

The teenager credits Team Owner & Mentor Steve Portenga for helping to find his comfort zone that enabled Perkins to showcase his rapid improvement as the season progressed.

"I can't thank Steve and his team enough for how much they helped me last year," smiles Perkins. "They never gave up on me and they never got down on me. No matter how our days were going, we got through them as a team”

“It’s not the kind of experience that a driver is going to have with just any team in the paddock. This group of guys definitely has a special bond and I couldn't ask for a better squad to be surrounded by”

With the 2017 campaign looming, Perkins explains the team hopes to implement a game plan built around tapping into the experiences the team had throughout their first season together.

"There's so much talent in the West Series that you either have to adapt or get left behind," offers the well-spoken sophomore. "So much of my rookie year was an entirely new experience for me, and I'm excited to have the chance to roll into some of these tracks for a second time”

“I've replayed every race in my head more times than I can count, I've watched all the footage there is and I've read over just about every note we took all season. I’m proud of what we put together last year, but I know that we’re capable of so much more. I can, and will be, better behind the wheel. We have all the tools to make a serious run for the championship this season.”

Blaine Perkins’ 2017 return to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will be made possible thanks to the support of Golden Gate Meat Company, Four Star Fruit, Double Eagle Produce & Transportation, Good Life Organics, Hronis Racing and Reeves Complete Auto Center.
