Goeters Takes Over Mexico Series Points Lead

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico – Antonio Pérez earned his second career NASCAR Mexico Series win Sunday with a victory at the Potosino Oval.

Pérez drove his No. 1 Telmex/Red Bull Dodge to the lead halfway through the 120-lap event on the half-mile track. It’s the first win since Sept. 2, 2007 at Monterrey for Pérez, who also plans to run a limited schedule in the NASCAR Camping World Series East.

Víctor Barrales (No. 30 Gel Gomina/Mann Filter Chevrolet) and Rafael Vallina (No. 0 Spartac RT Chevrolet) finished second and third. It was a career high for both drivers – with Barrales’ runner-up finish coming in his hometown.

Rookie José Luis Ramírez (No. 17 Plata Motorsports Pontiac) and Jorge Goeters (No. 4 Sparta RT Chevrolet) rounded out the top five.

The race scrambled the point standing when defending champion Rafael Martínez was involved in a wreck and finished 26th. The accident dropped Martínez to second in points, 38 points behind Patrick Goeters and just four in front of Carlos Pardo. Goeters finished ninth at San Luis Potosí, while Pardo finished 10th.
