RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Timmy Solomito has an early edge in his bid to repeat as winner of the Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac 200 at Riverhead Raceway.
Solomito, of Islip, New York, posted a quick lap of 12.056 seconds (74.652 seconds) in qualifying Saturday at the Long Island bullring for his fifth career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Coors Light Pole Award.
The season points leader, Solomito earned his first career pole at the venerable quarter-mile in 2013.
Ronnie Williams will join Solomito on the front row in just his second career Whelen Modified Tour start. The rookie from Ellington, Connecticut, turned a qualifying lap of 12.065 (74.596).
Shawn Solomito was third-fastest at 12.072 (74.553) followed by Ryan Preece at 12.087 (74.460) and Tom Rogers Jr. at 12.134 (74.172).
Tom Rogers Jr., Justin Bonsignore, Rowan Pennink, Craig Lutz and Eric Goodale rounded out the top 10 qualifiers.
The Buzz Chew Chevrolet-Cadillac 200 is slated to go green at approximately 8 p.m.
