TOURS, France – Building work is progressing quickly at Tours’ Parc des Expositions a week prior to the running of Europe’s inaugural NASCAR series oval event. Finishing touches are the order of the day for the unique Euro-Racecar circuit set to host this historic event on July 6-8.
The temporary, .333-mile, D-shaped oval is 65-feet wide and surrounded by FIA-homologated walls that meet Formula One standards. Construction on the circuit began on June 25 with the layout being mapped on the ground and the first walls being delivered to the site. Special machinery began to put the pieces in place on the frontstretch and Turns 1 and 4 the following day.
Installation of the poles, cables and fencing – added for spectator safety – followed. The definitive outline of the track came into focus on June 29. Ground markings and final aesthetic touches were completed on Monday. The first track test takes place on Tuesday, July 3.
Nearly fifty workers have been involved in the track construction process at the Parc des Expositions where Euro-Racecar will share the bill with the Country Bike Rock Festival. All told, approximately 35 truckloads of material were transported to the site and nearly 1,000 tons of equipment have been used.
Transport of the walls required the use of some 35 heavy goods vehicles and the process of construction saw more than 1,000 tons of equipment used.
