News & Notes: Thompson Goes Green

The second of five trips for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway is slated for Thursday, June 19 with the New England Dodge Dealers 75 presented by Charter Cable, Internet & Telephone.

The format, which is unique but not new to the Modified Tour, will see only green flag laps scored. Regardless of how many caution laps are run, the checkered flag will drop with the completion of 75 green-flag laps.

NASCAR to Recognize 1992 Modified Champ on June 19

As part of a season-long celebration of 60 years of Modified champions, 1992 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour titlist Jeff Fuller will be honored at the New England Dodge Dealers 75 presented by Charter Communications on Thursday, June 19 at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.

Originally from Auburn, Mass., Fuller was one of the most successful drivers during the first 10 years of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and he excelled at Thompson, where he registered a third of his career wins.

FORMER MODIFIED CHAMPION FARMER STILL ON TRACK AT 75 

When the green flag dropped Wednesday evening at an Ohio short track, a past NASCAR Modified champion found himself racing against some of the best drivers in the world, but this time it wasn’t on asphalt.

Last year’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Donny Lia garnered headlines recently when he reached Victory Lane at Mansfield (Ohio) Motorsports Park in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in a thrilling three-wide finish.

Penalties Change Modified Tour and Canadian Tire Series Finishes

NASCAR announced today penalties and revised finishes to this past weekend’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series events due to rules violations discovered during post-race technical inspection.

n The unofficial results of Friday’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Stafford (Conn.) Speedway have been revised due to rules violations discovered on the fifth-place car – the No. 19 driven by Jimmy Blewett.

Hossfeld Holds Them All Off

STAFFORD, Conn. – If Chuck Hossfeld wins the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship, he can point to Friday night’s TSI Harley-Davidson 150 as where it came together.

Hossfeld drove the No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge to Victory Lane, ending a winless drought of nearly four years. To get there, though, he had had to withstand a pair of restarts in the final 11 laps with Todd Szegedy, Ted Christopher and Mike Stefanik at his heels.

RAIN SLOWS FRIDAY NIGHT'S RACING; TOUR ON DECK 

STAFFORD, Conn. – Everything is going perfectly right now for Chuck Hossfeld. But the driver of the No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge isn’t leaving everything up to fate.

Hossfeld not only qualified first Friday afternoon for the TSI Harley-Davidson 150, which is scheduled to go green later in the evening, but he also re-drew the pole after plucking out the No. 1 pill in post-qualifying re-draw of the top six spots.

Preece Paces Practice At Stafford

STAFFORD, Conn. – Fast at Stafford Motor Speedway is becoming old hat for Ryan Preece.

Preece’s No. 3 Mizzy Construction/FJ Hubany Chevrolet paced Friday afternoon’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice session in advance of Friday night’s TSI Harley-Davidson 150. His top lap of 18.119 seconds (99.343 mph) was slightly quicker than Todd Szegedy (No. 2 Wisk-Snuggle Ford) at 18.132/99.272 and Chuck Hossfeld (No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge) at 18.174/99.053.

News & Notes: Stefanik Leads The Way

For the second time in as many events, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will visit Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway and take the green flag for the TSI Harley-Davidson 150 on Friday, May 23.

Following a month layoff since the last race, also at Stafford on April 27, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will get back on the half-mile track for the one-day show.

Action will begin with an afternoon practice session and evening qualifying that will precede the first night race of the 2008 season.

Stefanik To Be Honored At Stafford

As part of a season-long celebration of 60 years of Modified champions, seven-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour titlist Mike Stefanik will be honored at the TSI Harley-Davidson 150 on Friday, May 23 at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway.

A resident of Coventry, R.I., Stefanik is the winningest driver in the history of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and he was also named to the “NASCAR All-Time Modified Top 10 Drivers” list in 2003.

New Faces Take New Hampshire Test

In a combined session today a total of 23 teams from the NASCAR Camping World Series East and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour tested at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The NASCAR Camping World Series East had a strong contingent of teams taking advantage of the test opportunity with a total of 18 cars. The garage featured a mix of New Hampshire veterans like Steve Park and Matt Kobyluck, as well as a host of rookies such as Austin Dillon, winner of the season-opener at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on April 19.
