QUALIFYING: Purdy Earns First K&N East Pole

Looking For First Win Of His Career At Memphis

MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Chase Purdy isn't showing his rookie stripes thus far at Memphis International Raceway.

The 17-year-old rookie and Meridan, Mississippi, native turned a lap of 23.799 seconds (113.450 mph) in the third and final group of qualifying in his No. 17 Bama Buggies Toyota, earning the NASCAR Next driver his first career NASCAR K&N Pro Series East 21 Means 21 Pole Award.

Todd Gilliland's lap of 23.851 seconds was about five hundredths seconds slower than Purdy, putting his No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota on the outside front row in the Memphis 125 Presented by AutoZone. Harrison Burton, who led the sole practice session of the day, put down a lap of 23.880 seconds in his No. 12 DEX Imaging Toyota, and will start in the third slot on the starting grid. Tyler Dippel and Ronnie Bassett Jr. will start fourth and fifth, respectively.

Chase Cabre, Trey Hutchens, Ruben Garcia Jr., Hunter Baize and Collin Cabre rounded out the top ten for the inagural NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at the 3/4-mile asphalt oval.

The Memphis 125 Presented by AutoZone is scheduled to go green at 5:05 p.m.
