Martinez Earns Zacatecas Pole

ZACATECAS, Mexico – Defending series champion Rafael Martinez captured his second pole of the season Saturday during qualifying for the fifth race of the NASCAR Mexico Series season.

Martinez (No. 18 Canel’s/Scotiabank Ford) won both races at Autódromo Internacional de Zacatecas last season during his title run. This season’s first race on the road course will be Sunday.

Martinez’s time around the 1,850-meter course was 40.137 seconds. Homero Richards (No. 20 H&H/NEXTEL Ford) qualified second at 40.622 second.

Antonio Perez, Martinez’s teamate Freddy Tame and Jorge Goeters round out the top five.

The NASCAR Mexico Series has featured four different winners (Martinez, Patrick Goeters, Perez, and Ruben Rovelo) in the first four races.
