October 6, 2017 - 12:40pm

CONCORD, N.C. - Although it's been five years since he last drove a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour car, Corey LaJoie still knows how to go fast.

The former NASCAR Next driver was able to lead the field during final practice at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a fast lap of 59.332 mph in preparation for the Southern Slam 150 to be held tonight on the quarter-mile oval located on the front stretch of the track.

Lajoie, who currently drives for BK Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, outpaced Danny Bohn in the final session. LaJoie has one career NASCAR Whelen Modiifed Tour win taking the checkered flag on the same type of track at Georgia's Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2010.

Bohn, led all drivers in the first practice session with a fast lap of 59.175 mph.

Ryan Preece, who won this event at CMS last season, was third fastest in practice with Doug Coby and Derek Kraus rounding out the top five.

Bobby Measmer Jr., CJ Lehmann, Trey Hutchens III, Jeremy Gerstner and Jamie Tomaino completed the top-10 drivers in practice.

Qualifying for the Southern Slam 150 will start at 4:05 with the green flag slated to be given to the field at 8:40 p.m.
