PRACTICE: Fleming Paces Field At Langley

HAMPTON, Va. - On a NASCAR throwback weekend Frank Fleming provided his own version of the celebration in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Saturday in Virginia.

The veteran competitor who has over 50 modified wins in his career, led the field during practice for the Bayport Credit Union 150 presented by Budweiser at Langley Speedway.

Fleming, from Mt. Airy, North Carolina, drove his No. 40 AutosbyNelson.com/Lewsiville Motors/William Smith Trucking Chevrolet to a fast lap of 15.180 seconds (94.862 mph) during the one-hour session.

QUALIFYING: Record Run For Pitkat

BRISTOL, Tenn. – “Thunder Valley” is one of multiple nicknames that Bristol Motor Speedway carries. Wednesday the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tours provided plenty of thunder in Coors Light Pole qualifying.

Woody Pitkat led a charge of 10 cars who qualified under the previous track mark for the division. A fast lap of 14.654 seconds (130.940 mph) earned the Stafford, Connecticut, native his fourth career Whelen Modified Tour pole and topped Donny Lia’s previous record set in 2009 at 14.806 (129.596).

Whelen Modified News & Notes: Bristol

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – You’d be hard-pressed to come up with the name of a driver more deserving of a turn of good luck at Bristol Motor Speedway than Ted Christopher.

In the previous six editions of the annual combination race between NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tours at Bristol Motor Speedway, no driver has found more speed with nothing to show for it than the Plainville, Connecticut, veteran.

Bohn Back In Bowman Gray Victory Lane

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The first names that come to mind when referring to modified racing at Bowman Gray Stadium are usually Brown, Miller and Myers. Danny Bohn is doing his best to get in the conversation.

Bohn, from Freehold, New Jersey, captured the checkered flag in the Strutmasters.com 199 Saturday night in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour action. It was his second win in a row in the event.

QUALIFYING: Preece Stays Hot At Stadium

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Ryan Preece looks like the driver to beat at Bowman Gray Stadium for tonight's Strutmasters.com 199.

After leading the field in practice, the Berlin, Connecticut, driver went out and won his ninth career Coors Light Pole in just 13 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour appearances with a fast lap of 13.202 seconds (68.171 mph). It was his second career pole at the famed quarter-mile track.
