Crown Jewel Of Louisiana Short Tracks Joins NASCAR Ranks

A gleaming new state-of-the-art short track located in northeast Louisiana has joined the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Monroe Motor Speedway, a .375-mile concrete oval banked at 12 degrees, embarks on its first full season with NASCAR sanction on March 7. The track hosted initial events late last year to prepare for 2009.

The announcement was made at Monroe City Hall Thursday morning.

D4D Introduces '09 Driver Lineup

CONCORD, N.C. – The Drive for Diversity initiative continues to move forward in 2009 with an expanded driver lineup and a new management group. Twelve drivers will participate in the sixth season of Drive for Diversity -- four in the Camping World Series and eight in the Whelen All-American Series. In addition, former Dale Earnhardt Inc. president Max Siegel and his new marketing and entertainment company, 909 Group, will take over day-to-day management of the initiative (read more).

Siegel to manage D4D initiative

Former Dale Earnhardt Inc. president Max Siegel will conduct the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program through his new sports and entertainment marketing agency, The 909 Group, NASCAR announced Wednesday.
 
The Drive for Diversity program had been outsourced to Access Marketing & Communications for its initial five years, and NASCAR has now contracted it out to Siegel, who sees his new opportunity as one where he can have a broad impact on the sport.

NASCAR Drivers To Hit The Sleds This Weekend In Lake Placid

The Whelen Geoff Bodine Bobsled Challenge is set to take place Jan. 2-4 in Lake Placid, N.Y., with a host of NASCAR drivers lined up for the fourth annual event.

Barkshire Hopes For Perfect Finish

Jeff Barkshire reached a lot of goals as a race driver in 2008. He captured his first Coors Light Pole Award in NASCAR Camping World Series West competition at the combination event at Iowa Speedway in May. He scored his first career win in the series at Evergreen Speedway in July. And he was honored as with the Sunoco Rookie of the Year during the championship awards banquet in Sacramento, Calif., in November.
