Rain Forces Tide 250 To Sunday

SAINT EUSTACHE, Que. – A large weather system moved into the area at midday, with no relief in sight, and forced the postponement of the Tide 250 at Autodrome St. Eustache. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 event is set to take the green flag at 2 p.m. ET Sunday afternoon.

The weather system is expected to bring high winds and heavy rain later this afternoon. It is, however, forecast to clear the area overnight. Sunday’s forecast calls for clear skies, no chance of precipitation and mild temperatures.

Mobil 1 signs on as presenting sponsor for Canadian Tire Series

Official Release

TORONTO – Canadian Tire Corporation and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) announced today that Mobil 1, the world’s leading synthetic motor oil, has become the presenting sponsor for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

The series is now officially called the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1.

News & Notes: Something New For Veteran Villeneuve

Many world-class drivers are willing to return to their roots when the occasion allows, but not many sign up for something they've done very little of in their careers.

Jacques Villeneuve (No. 7 Jacombs Racing Ford), the 1995 Indy 500 winner and 1997 Formula 1 world champion, will go short-rack racing in the Tide 250 at Quebec's Autodrome St. Eustache and make his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series debut in the process.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Beginning today, fans can visit www.nascar.com and cast votes for the 2009 Most Popular Driver of the Year Award for the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

In addition, www.nascarhometracks.com will host the balloting for each of NASCAR’s regional touring series – the NASCAR Camping World Series East and West, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, NASCAR Mexico Series and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

ACMS adding seats for inaugural Canadian Tire Series event

With 36 days still to go before the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series invades Auto Clearing Motor Speedway (ACMS) in Saskatoon, Sask., for the first time, track officials have announced that existing seating for the Velocity Prairie Thunder presented by Bayer CropScience is sold out.

As a result, 1,500 bleacher seats will be added for the 250-lap race on Wednesday, July 29. Those tickets are on sale now. Specific information can be found at the track’s website, www.autoclearingmotorspeedway.ca.

Ranger dominates Dickies 200

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Andrew Ranger won the Dickies in dominating fashion in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series action at Mosport International Raceway.

Ranger (No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford), out of Roxton Pond, Que., took the lead from Anthony Simone (No. 95 Crown Modular/United Lumber Chevrolet) on Lap 39 and ran away from the field. Ranger beat Simone to the finish line by 6.678, the largest margin of victory in series history.

QUALIFYING: Ranger to start on the Dickies 200 pole

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Andrew Ranger earned the pole position in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series qualifying for the Dickies 200 at Mosport International Raceway. He worked his way around the 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course in a series track record 85.119 seconds for an average lap speed of 104.000 mph.

It is the first pole of the season for Ranger (No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford) and the fourth of his series career. He last started first on the grid last July in Edmonton. All four poles have come on road courses for the product of Roxton Pond, Que.

BOWMANVILLE, Ont. – Both NASCAR Canadian Tire Series practice sessions are complete at Mosport International Raceway for the Dickies 200 and Andrew Ranger turned in the fastest lap in each. His quickest lap, overall, timed in at 85.163 seconds for an average speed of 105.680 mph.
