Qualifying: Fitzpatrick Sets GP3R Mark

TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec – J.R. Fitzpatrick won his first pole of the season in record fashion during NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio qualifying for the GP3R 100 at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres.

The 21 year-old Fitzpatrick (No. 84 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet), out of Cambridge, Ont., circuited the 1.530-mile temporary road course in 68.446 seconds for an average lap speed of 80.472 mph to earn his fourth career Canadian Tire Series pole. In the process, he broke his own record of 68.573 seconds set a season ago.

Practice: Tagliani Paces GP3R

TROIS-RIVIERES, Quebec – Alex Tagliani posted the fastest time in Friday’s Canadian Tire Series practice for the GP3R 100 at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres.
 
The native of Lachenaie, Quebec piloted his No. 7 Wal-Mart/Ubisoft Ford to a time of 69.454 seconds around the 1.530-mile temporary road course which translates to an average speed of 78.268 mph.

Micks Charges To Full Throttle Win

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario – There was a familiar look to much of the Full Throttle Energy Drink 200 at Mosport Speedway with championship point leader Scott Steckly leading the first 126 laps, but an engine failure ended his bid for his fourth victory this season. Steckly’s misfortune ultimately led to Kerry Micks’ first victory in 2008 and his first since winning back-to-back events last August.

Mosport Washed Out

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario – Inclement weather has forced the postponement of the Full Throttle Energy Drink 200 at Mosport Speedway. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio event was scheduled for Saturday evening start before the weather system moved into the area. NASCAR and track officials have re-scheduled the event for Sunday.

Time trials are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., and the Full Throttle Energy Drink 200 is set for a noon green flag.

Practice: Thomson Shows The Way

BOWMANVILLE, Ontario – Don Thomson Jr. (No. 4 Home Hardware Chevrolet) topped the chart in practice for the Full Throttle Energy Drink 200. He patrolled the .500-mile oval at Mosport Speedway in 21.381 seconds for an average lap speed of 84.147 mph.

Thomson’s time was .211 seconds faster than the qualifying record established by J.R. Fitzpatrick (No. 84 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet) a year ago at 21.592 seconds (83.364 mph).

News & Notes: Thomson Wants To Add NASCAR Title To Extensive Resume

Championships are nothing new to Don Thomson Jr. He won five consecutive CASCAR Super Series titles from 2001 to 2005, but he would like to add a NASCAR championship to his already impressive resume.

Actually, Thomson (No. 4 Home Hardware Chevrolet) won seven straight championships, having won a pair of CASCAR East Series titles just prior to his string of national series triumphs.

Ranger Holds On To This One

MONTREAL – After narrowly missing the victory a season ago, Andrew Ranger sealed the deal this season in the NAPA 100 after passing J.R. Fitzpatrick on the white flag lap for his first win of the 2008 season.

Ranger (No. 27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford) got to Fitzpatrick’s (No. 84 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet) rear deck lid going into the Turn 8 and 9 combination at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio event when Fitzpatrick left a small opening and Ranger was able to drive his Ford through it.

Qualifying: Record Run For Micks

MONTREAL – Defending NAPA 100 champion Kerry Micks set a track record in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio qualifying at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The driver out of Mount Albert, Ontario worked his way around the 14-turn, 2.710-mile road course in 106.664 seconds for an average lap speed of 91.465 mph.

It was Micks’ (No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging Ford) first pole of the 2008 season and the third of his Canadian Tire Series career.

MONTREAL - J.R. Fitzpatrick (No. 84 Fitzpatrick Motorsports Chevrolet) had the quickest car on the track in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series practice for the NAPA 100 at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Cambridge, Ontario-based driver navigated the 14-turn, 2.710-mile road course located on Île Notre Dame in 107.108 seconds for an average speed of 91.587 mph.
