ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – Cale Conley led the way in practice for the inaugural Classic 3 Championship presented by RCR Racing Museum on Friday in advance of Saturday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season finale at Rockingham Speedway.
Conley, from Vienna, W.Va., posted a fast lap of 24.623 seconds (146.205 mph) in the first of two practice sessions Friday at the hallowed one-mile speedway. Conley already has two poles this season and will try for a third in the No. 47 Tait Towers/Rock-It Cargo Toyota during qualifying today at 3:45 p.m.
Season points leader Kyle Larson, from Elk Grove, Calif., piloted his No. 6 Toyota Racing Development Toyota to the fourth-fastest lap in both sessions. He recorded a fast lap of 25.040 (143.77) in the first and 24.917 (144.480) in the second.
Trailing Larson by 10 points entering Saturday’s finale, Brett Moffitt led the way in final practice on Friday at 24.663 (145.968). The No. 11 Chiba Toyopet Toyota team did not make a mock qualifying run in the first session of the day, when he was 14th on the board.
Corey LaJoie, 19 points back of Larson in third place, was third-fastest in the first session at 25.037 (143.787) and ranked fifth in the afternoon at 24.935 (144.375). LaJoie, from Concord, N.C., has won three of the previous four races and five overall this season in the No. 07 Sims Metal/LaJoie Scrap Metal Ford.
Following Conley in the first practice session on the speed chart were Bryan Ortiz, LaJoie, Larson and Ryan Gifford in the top five. The second session leaders were Moffitt, first-time starter Tyler Reddick, Ortiz, Larson and LaJoie.
The Classic 3 Championship presented by RCR Racing Museum is scheduled for a green flag on Saturday at approximately 2 p.m.
