IRWINDALE, Calif. - Michael Self was the man in charge at Irwindale Speedway, as the No. 9 Sunrise Ford/Eibach Springs/Lucas Oil Ford topped practice for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.
Ripping around the half-mile in 18.097 seconds [99.464 mph], the six-time series winner bested his Sunrise Ford Racing teammate Julia Landauer by 0.220 seconds.
For Self, Thursday night at Kern County Raceway Park was return to K&N Pro Series west competition after nearly four years out of the seat. Finishing sixth after leading 84 laps, the Park City, New Jersey native will race for the first time since 2011 at Irwindale Speedway.
Landauer posted the second-best overall time at an 18.317, as she finished second in both sessions. Chris Eggleston was third best followed by last week's winner Todd Gilliland and Nicole Behar.
Salvatore Iovino was the only significant issue in both 45-minute sessions after he pounded the Turn 3 wall early in the first session. The 2016 most popular driver did not turn a lap in the second session.
Garrett Archer, Blaine Perkins, Ron Norman, Todd Souza and Matt Levin completed the top 10.
