Team Release
January 23, 2013 - 6:32pm

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Avanti Motorsports (AMS) of Carlsbad, Calif., has announced that Joshua Schoonover will pilot the Avanti No.62 car in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West during the upcoming 2013 season.

“AMS has been testing with Joshua since late last year and we look forward to competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West events,” said Erika Csaszi, team owner. “Mike David put together a very nice circle track car with a Maropulos open Chevy that we expect to be very competitive, and we also intend to field a road race Dodge with a Kevin Kroyer-built Mopar engine for road course events including Sonoma and Miller Motorsports Park.”

Joshua Schoonover is new to the series and looks to garner seat time as he works his way through the ranks of NASCAR.

“My goal is to drive a NASCAR Camping World Truck (Series) in the future, but for now I look forward to getting some much needed seat time and experience that will help me to prepare for that day," said Schoonover. “I am excited for this opportunity to compete in the illustrious NASCAR K&N Pro Series.”

Ron Esau of San Diego, Calif., will perform the duties as spotter, coach and crew chief. In addition, Ed Bernardo of San Diego, Calif., will serve as car chief for the No. 62.

“I would like to welcome Ron and Ed to our brand new NASCAR K&N team,” said Csaszi. “Ron brings a wealth of knowledge with his many years of racing experience, and we couldn’t think of anyone better fit to lead this team.”

The crew team for #62 also includes: Marc Danielian, Adam Shomer and Steve Reeves.

“I couldn’t ask for a better crew, these guys are my friends and each of them deeply enjoys NASCAR racing!” said Schoonover.

Schoonover was first introduced to circle track racing with his debut in the Southwest Tour Truck (SWTT) series at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway, where he recorded three top-ten finishes in five races during the 2011 season. Prior to SWTT, he spent time driving high-performance exotic sports cars in private club events.

When he is not racing, Schoonover practices patent law for Coastal Patent Agency, a patent procurement firm founded by Schoonover in 2009. Schoonover also enjoys surfing and playing tournament poker.

Avanti Motorsports intends to compete part-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West in 2013 with six to seven racing events. When not racing with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Schoonover will drive the Avanti Motorsports No. 48 NASCAR Late Model at Irwindale Speedway and Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif., in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series during the 2013 season.
