NEWTON, Iowa — The fastest times in Friday’s practice sessions for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West Casey’s General Store 150 Presented by Vatterott College at Iowa Speedway belonged to teammates.
Bill McAnally Racing drivers Todd Gilliland and Chris Eggleston were at the top of the leaderboard in both rounds at the .875-mile oval.
Gilliland and Eggleston are 1-2 in the K&N Pro Series West championship standings, and that is how they were in the two afternoon practice sessions. Gilliland, in the No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota had the best lap of 125.834 mph in the first session, with Eggleston, in the No. 99 NAPA Filters Toyota, second at 125.194.
It was the reverse in the second session. Eggleston, at 126.643, was fastest, while Gilliland was second at 126.557.
Ronnie Bassett Jr. (125.099) was third in the first session. Chase Purdy and Derek Kraus rounded out the top five. Chase Cabre, Harrison Burton, Tyler Dippel, Ruben Garcia and Reid Wilson completed the top 10.
Kraus (126.384) was third in the second session. Garcia was fourth, and Bassett was fifth. Ben Kennedy, Purdy, Chase Cabre, Michael Self and Dippel were the rounded out the top 10.
Qualifying is set for 5 p.m. CT.
