QUERETARO, Mexico – Hugo Oliveras picked up his first career NASCAR Mexico Series victory to cap an emotional weekend at the New Queretaro Autodromo.
Oliveres had one of the fastest times in practice but qualified fifth for the Goodyear 200, before driving the No. 11 Monster-MM Toyota to the front.
The race was dedicated to Carlos Pardo, who died June 14 following an accident in the race at Puebla. Pardo was the 2004 NASCAR Mexico Series champion. Prior to the race, the series held a tribute to Pardo and retired his car number 21.
Carlos’ brother Ruben finished second in Sunday’s race.
Jorge Arteaga recorded his best career finish with a third-place run. Former champions Rafael Martinez (2007) and Antonio Perez (2008) rounded out the top five.
Eight different teams were represented in the top 10.
Points leader Germain Quiroga finished ninth but still maintains an 89-point lead over second-place Ruben Pardo.
Pole sitter Jorge Goeters finished 25th. Local drivers Carlos and Oscar Peralta finished 13th and 26th, respectively.
