QUERETARO, Mexico – Ruben Rovelo earned his second career NASCAR Mexico Series victory Sunday at the Nuevo Autódromo de Querétaro, and runner-up Germain Quiroga took a big step toward securing his first series championship.

Rovelo earned the pole position Saturday and led the first 55 laps. Although he dropped back as low as 11th, he was able to rally and regain the lead on Lap 125 and was out front on Lap 132 when they reached the 100-minute time limit.

Quiroga, Fernando Plata, Patrick Goeters and Rogelio Lopez also led on the .750-mile track. Lopez finished third, followed by Patrick Goeters and Jorge Goeters in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Quiroga’s second-place finish, combined with a 25th by Ruben Pardo, gives Quiroga a 276-point lead with three races remaining on the schedule.

Rovelo is the ninth different winner on the season, a series record. His only previous win came May 18, 2008 at Guadalajara. Sunday’s race was slowed six times by cautions.
