TUXTLA GUTIERREZ, Mexico – Homero Richards picked up his second win of the season, and Germain Quiroga moved closer to officially clinching the 2009 NASCAR Mexico Series championship despite a 21st-place finish Sunday at Autódromo de Chiapas.
Richards took the lead on Lap 97 and was out front on Lap 152 on the 1,200-meter course when the race reached the 100-minute time limit.
Quiroga led briefly but had his day ended early by a flat tire. It was his first finish of worse than 20th, but he still maintains a 271-point lead over second-place Jorge Goeters with one race remaining. The official results from Autódromo de Chiapas will be released Thursday.
Jose Luis Ramirez recorded his first podium finish with a second-place run. Rafael Martinez finished third, followed by Jorge Arteaga and Hugo Oliveras.
Ruben Pardo, Carlos Contreras, Jorge Goeters, Abraham Calderon, and Patrick Goeters rounded out the top 10.
Lopez, the pole winner from Saturday, was joined by Richards, Luis Felipe Montano, and Jorge Goeters as lap leaders.
The final race of the season will be Nov. 22 at Aguascalientes.
