March 5, 2010 - 6:43pm

HAMPTON, Ga. -- James Civali said he plans to run the entire 2010 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour schedule. The Meriden, Conn., native got off to a godo start by winning the Coors Light Pole Award for the opening event at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Civali circled the quarter-mile on the front stretch at 14.428 seconds for a speed of 62.379 mph. Josh Nichols, qualifying for Gary Putnam, was second fastest at 14.661 (61.378). Putnam, the car chief for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Jamie McMurray, will have to fall to the back of the field at the start of the Atlanta 150 -- which is scheduled to go green at 8 p.m.

Adam Gay, Frank Fleming and Burt Myers rounded out the top five in qualifying.

Following the redraw of the top eight qualifiers, Gay and Brandon Hire will start on the front row. Myers and Putnam redrew third and fourth. The third row is Brad Robbins and James Civali, followed by Fleming and Tim Brown.
