PRACTICE: Truex Shows The Way At Gresham

Points Leader Fastest Overall While Whitt Leads First Practice

JEFFERSON, Ga. – In the inaugural appearance for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at Gresham Motorsports Park, Ryan Truex laid down the fastest lap of two practice sessions Saturday in preparation for the American Fence Association 150 presented by Mayfield Ice Creamier.

The points leader coming into tonight’s race, Truex toured the banked half-mile in 17.292 seconds (104.094 mph) to pace the field in the 50-minute final afternoon practice. He was also third-fastest in the 60-minute morning session at 17.532 (102.669).

Cole Whitt led all cars in the morning session with a fast lap of 17.395 (103.478), and topped that with a quick circuit of 17.301 (104.040) in the final practice to finish second to Truex.

Between Whitt and Truex in the morning session was Michael Cherry, who is making his K&N Pro Series East debut at Gresham. His best lap was 17.414 (103.365). Cherry was 14th in final practice.

Brett Moffitt and Ty Dillon rounded out the five fastest cars in first practice while Sergio Pena, Dillon and Ryan Gifford finished in the top five in the afternoon.

Thirty-three points behind Truex entering the day, Darrell Wallace Jr. finished seventh in first practice and ninth in the final session.

Matt Kobyluck crashed hard coming out of Turn 3 in the afternoon practice and will go to a back-up car. He was 18th in the morning and 10th in the afternoon.

Qualifying for the American Fence Association 150 is slated for today at 4 p.m., and the race slated to go green at 9 p.m.
