As the 2008 season is about to get underway another honor has been given to the 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Sirius Satellite Radio champion Andrew Ranger.

Ranger, 21, was selected in online voting as the Canadian Stock Car Racer of the Year in the Sixth Annual Inside Track Readers’ Choice Awards. Inside Track Motorsport News is one of the preeminent racing publications in Canada.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor and Canadian road racing legend Ron Fellows won the Overall Canadian Racer of the Year, a category in which Ranger also received votes.

Stock car racing was a new venture for Ranger, who spent the early portions of his burgeoning career in the open-wheel ranks. The Roxton Pond, Quebec native had just one stock car race under his belt going into the 2007 season.

On his way to the first ever Canadian Tire Series championship, Ranger won at Mosport International Raceway in just his second NASCAR event, notched seven top-five finishes and two pole awards.

Ranger will begin the defense of his title on May 25 at Cayuga International Raceway in the Crown Jewel 200.
