Quiroga Extends SLP Domination

Climbs back in points race with 4th win on the half-mile

SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico -- Germán Quiroga moved a step closer to defending his NASCAR Mexico Series championship with his second win of the season at Autódromo Potosino Sunday.

Quiroga earned his second win of the season -- both at Autódromo Potosino -- and his fourth career victory at the half-mile oval.

With the win, Quiroga moved up one spot in the standings to second-place and 22 points behind Antonio Perez. Perez finished ninth.

Ruben Pardo finished second, followed by Salvador Duran, Hugo Oliveras and Carlos Peralta.

Ricardo Perez de Lara, Jorge Arteaga, Victor Barrales, Perez and Rafael Vallina rounded out the top 10.

Quiroga started second behind pole position winner Jorge Goeters and took the lead from Pardo on Lap 187. Goeters, who led the most laps, lost the lead after contact with Perez on Lap 147 and finished 12th.

The race was slowed by eight cautions and ended under a yellow/checkered flag following an accident between Patrick Goeters and Jorge Goeters. Homero Richards, who entered the race nine points behind Perez, was involved in a Lap 137 accident and finished 30th.

After nine of 14 races, Perez has 1392 points, followed by Quiroga with 1370 and Richards with 1318. Ruben Rovelo and Rafael Martinez round ou tthe top five.

The NASCAR Mexico Series returns to the track Sunday, Sept. 19 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.
