CONCORD, N.C. – George Brunnhoelzl III kicked of his championship night in fine form.

Brunnhoelzl, who will become the 2012 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion as soon as he takes the green flag, won the Coors Light Pole Award for the UNOH Southern Slam 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Thursday afternoon. It was Brunnhoelzl's 18th career pole award and established a track record with a lap of 61.112 mph around the flat quarter-mile.

Ryan Preece, who was fastest in both practice sessions earlier in the day, will start on the outside of the front row. Burt Myers, Danny Bohn and Frank Fleming round out the Top-5 qualifiers in the 20-car starting field.

Andy Seuss, who established the previous track record in this race last season, qualified eighth.

By starting the UNOH Southern Slam 150, Brunnhoelzl, of West Babylon, N.Y., will win his second consecutive Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship and his third overall.

The green flag is expected to fly at approximately 8:30 p.m.
