DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Nate Monteith scored the fastest lap in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model practice on Monday for the UNOH Battle At The Beach at Daytona International Speedway.
Coleman Pressley, from Asheville, N.C., had the second-fastest time of the day at 20.171 seconds for an average speed of 71.390 mph on the .4-mile oval at “The World Center of Speed,” but led the crucial final practice session to claim the pole position for the first of two qualifying heat races later today.
Monteith, out of Blountville, Tenn., posted a time of 20.129 seconds (71.539 mph) for the fastest lap of the day. Monteith finished fourth in the national Whelen All-American Series standing last season while competing primarily at Kingsport (Tenn.) Speedway. His time in the final session was second-fastest which affords Monteith the pole position for the second qualifying race.
Ben Rhodes, out of Louisville, Ky., with a time of 20.231 seconds (71.178 mph) was the third-quickest driver of the day while reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion Kyle Larson at 20.279 seconds (71.009 mph) was fourth quick. Larson, out of Elk Grove, Calif., is competing in all three UNOH Battle At The Beach events.
Kaz Grala, from Westborough, Mass., rounded out the top-five drivers with a time of 20.313 seconds (70.891 mph).
Whelen All-American Series national champion Lee Pullium, C.E. Falk, L.B. Skaggs, Garrett Campbell and Mike Looney rounded out the top 10.
The first qualifying heat race is scheduled to get underway at 5:30 p.m. ET. The feature race for the late models is scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start. Coverage on SPEED and MRN will begin at 7 p.m. this evening.
