PRACTICE: Day And Longin Fastest At Zolder

Three Title Contenders At The Top In ELITE 1, Longin Dominates In ELITE 2

Title contender and NASCAR Next driver Alon Day (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) opened the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Finals weekend by posting the fastest lap time of the two free practice sessions at Circuit Zolder, while Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS)  led the way in ELITE 2 with a dominant performance.

With a lap in 1:38:502 around the 4.011 Km of Circuit Zolder in Final Practice, Day was the fastest driver in the ELITE 1 and the only one to go below the one minute and thirty-nine seconds mark. Two other title contenders, Anthony Kumpen (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) and Frederic Gabillon (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang) ended up second and third, separated by just 12 one-thousandths of a second, but with a six tenths of a second gap from the Israeli, who also topped the Junior “Jerome Sarran” Trophy classification.

After leading the first practice session Marc Goossens (#90 Brass Racing Ford Mustang) was fourth fastest, while Bert Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) rounded out a top-5 including three Belgian drivers. Gianmarco Ercoli (#9 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang), Wilfried Boucenna (#73 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang), Borja Garcia (#6 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang), Nicolò Rocca (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) and Alex Caffi (#23 Alex Caffi Motorsport Ford Mustang) completed the top-10.

Dario Caso (#8 Vict Motorsport Ford Mustang) led the Challenger trophy in 17th place.

Stienes Longin (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) dominated the ELITE 2 field in both session, lapping in 1:40.228 on his home track in Final Practice. The all-time ELITE 2 winningest driver was 1.245 seconds faster than Salvador Tineo Arroyo (#54 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS). Riccardo Geltrude (#7 Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) ended up third and led the Rookie Cup, setting his fastest time in the first session. Thomas Ferrando (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang) edged Gabriele Gardel (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet SS) for fourth.

Martin Doubek (#5 Dexwet Renauer Team Ford Mustang) was a close sixth, while Dario Caso (#8 Vict Motorsport Ford Mustang) led the Legend Trophy classification in seventh, closely followed by Hugo Bec (#3 Tepac RDV Compétition Ford Mustang), Renzo Calcinati (#12 Virgin Radio Double-T by Nocentini Ford Mustang) and Jerry De Weerdt (#78 Brass Racing Ford Mustang).

Arianna Casoli (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) led the Lady Cup in 20th place.
