DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Last time the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour was on the track, Ryan Preece was in Victory Lane at Stafford Motor Speedway.
Wednesday, the driver of the No. 6 TS Haulers/Hoosier Tire of Calverton Chevrolet continued his dominant roll in the series. He posted the fastest time in the first and only practice session for the Bud King of Beers 150 at Thompson (Conn.) Speedway Motorsports Park. His quick time of 18.608 seconds was good enough to best all of the 26-car field.
Behind him, Timmy Solomito, who enters the race as the points leader, posted the second fastest time behind the wheel of his No. 16 Starrett Tools Ford. Solomito's fast lap around the 0.625-mile high-banked oval was 18.764 seconds.
Rowan Pennink, who enters the event seven points behind Solomito in the championship chase, posted the third fastest lap time in the practice session. Pennink's fast lap was 18.795 seconds. Debuting a new ride, Woody Pitkat was fourth fastest with a lap of 18.836 seconds. Rounding out the top five was Andrew Krause.
Just outside the top five, 13-time Thompson winner Ted Christopher was sixth behind the wheel of the No. 82 Horton Avenue Materials Chevrolet. Four-time series champion and five-time Thompson winner Doug Coby was seventh fastest.
Max Zachem, Bobby Santos and David Sapienza rounded out the top 10.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for Coors Light Pole Qualifying at 7 p.m. The Bud King of Beers 150 is scheduled to take the green flag just after 7:45 p.m.
