PRACTICE: Soper Stout at Riverhead

Long Island Rookie Tops Speed Chart

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. - Local hotshoe Kyle Soper led the way in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice Saturday afternoon at Riverhead Raceway in advance of the Miller Lite 200.

Soper's No. 15 Eastport Feeds Chevrolet posted a fast lap of 12.049 seconds in the opening minutes of the one hour session and held on to pace the 24-car field.

Another Riverhead regular and part-time Whelen Modified Tour competitor Kyle Ellwood finished second on the speed chart at 12.061 while defending race winner Timmy Solomito was third at 12.066.

Dave Sapienza, Dillon Steuer, Eric Goodale, Doug Coby, Matt Swanson, points leader Ryan Preece and Ronnie Williams rounded out the top 10.

Qualifying is slated for 6 p.m. and the Miller Lite 200 will go green at approximately 8 p.m.
