Goeters Claims SLP Checkers

SAN LUIS POTOSI - Jorge Goeters led a 1-2 sweep for Canel's Racing as he collected his first win of 2010 at Potosino Speedway. It was the eighth career NASCAR Mexico Series win for Goeters, who edged teammate Freddy Tamme by .127 seconds. It is the sixth time Canel's has swept the top two spots.

Goeters completed 192 laps on the half-mile track as the race ended at the 120-minute time limit.

Patrick Goeters was third, followed by pole sitter Homero Richards and Germain Quiroga.

Carlos Peralta, Ruben Rovelo, Antonio Perez, Salvador Duran and Jorge Arteaga rounded out the top 10.

Rovelo led the most laps with 52, while Jorge Goeters led 48. He took the lead from Rovelo on Lap 178 and held off a challenge from Quiroga, Richards, and Tame. Quiroga and Richards made contact late in the race, costing them several spots.

The race was slowed by 12 cautions, including one for Rafael Martinez. Martinez, who won the first two races of the season, finished 27th.

The NASCAR Mexico Series will return to the track Saturday, May 22 at Autodromo Chiapas in Tuxtla Gutierrez. The race will mark the series' first Saturday night event.
