Richards Goes Back-To-Back

Takes win in Puebla for second straight victory

PUEBLA, Mexico -- Homero Richards picked up his second win in a row Sunday at Autódromo Miguel E. Abed and moved into second place in the NASCAR Mexico Series standings.

Richards started third and moved to the front on Lap 32 on the 1.25-mile oval. The driver of the No. 20 NEXTEL-VENOM-FLANAX led a race-high 27 laps en route to his fourth career victory.

Antonio Perez maintained his points lead with a runner-up finish. Jose Luis Ramirez finished third, followed by Irwin Vences and Rogelio Lopez.

Abraham Calderón, Carlos Contreras, Hugo Oliveras, Oscar Montaño and Pepe Ruiz rounded out the top 10.

Other championship contenders German Quiroga (third) and Rafael Martinez (fourth) both experienced issues and finished 20th and 21st, respectively. Perez leads Richards by 27 points and defending champion Quiroga by 96.

The race was slowed by nine cautions.

The NASCAR Mexico Series will return to action at the Autodromo Bernardo Obregon in Guadalajara on Sunday, August 8.
