MONTERREY, Mexico -- Ruben Rovelo earned his first victory of the NASCAR Mexico Series season Sunday at Autódromo de Monterrey.
Rovelo completed the 63 laps in 1 hour, 44 minutes, 33.393 seconds.
He started ninth and steadily moved up through the field. He was in the top five by Lap 27, passed German Quiroga for third on Lap 33 and took the lead away from Jose Luis Ramirez on Lap 41.
It was Rovelo’s third career win and first since Queretaro in October of last year.
Jorge Goeters won the pole position and finished second. He was followed by Homero Richards, Rafael Martinez and Daniel Suarez. Rogelio Lopez, Oscar Ruiz, Patrick Goeters, Quiroga and Salvador Duran rounded out the top 10.
Richards closed the gap on points leader Antonio Perez to just 14. Perez finished 14th. Quiroga, the defending series champion, is third and trails Perez by 64 points. Rovelo is fourth and Martinez fifth.
The race was slowed by just three yellow flags.
The NASCAR Mexico Series next races Sept. 5 at San Luis Potosi.
