For those unable to attend the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Awards Banquet and/or NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Series Awards Gala held last December in the Grand Ballroom of the Charlotte (N.C.) The first time Jimmy Spencer met Richie Evans was at Martinsville Speedway in 1979. Spencer was a 22-year-old just beginning to branch out from his native Pennsylvania, while the often unbeatable Evans was at the height of his career as King of the Modifieds. An asphalt track had recently opened near Spencer's hometown, and the younger driver wanted to know how to procure old racing tires that he could sell to make some extra cash. Nobody would know better than Evans, so Spencer worked up the nerve to introduce himself to the godfather of NASCAR's oldest touring division.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Funeral services and visitation plans have been announced for Roger Hill, owner of the No. 79 and No. 19 cars in the NASCAR Whelen Modified and Southern Modified Tours. Hill passed away Thursday following a brief illness.
The family will receive friends at Moody's funeral home, located at 202 W. Blue Ridge Street in Stuart, Va., from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday.
The funeral will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Stateline Primitive Babtist Church located at 1060 Hillbilly Hollow in Westfield, N.C.

The 2011 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship was once again decided in the closing laps of the season as Ron Silk held off Todd Szegedy in a wild season finale at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway, but there was plenty of action throughout the season.
