Jennifer Jo Cobb joins NWES at Valencia


The grid of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season opener at Valencia gets every day more competitive and international: American NASCAR driver Jennifer Jo Cobb will be on the NWES grid in Spain to drive the #10 Racing Total Chevrolet in the ELITE 2 Division.

"I have always wanted to be part of NASCAR on an international level and the fact that the Euro series exists is amazing," said Cobb, who will also contend for the Lady Cup."I am glad that NASCAR is expanding to so many other countries outside of the U.S. and I hope that we see more drivers from around the world in our series in the U.S. and that more of our drivers get these great opportunities."

Very experienced driver and team owner in the United States, Cobb took part in 154 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and 30 NASCAR Xfinity races. The Kansas City native met Racing Total’s owner Hubertus Heyman and his wife Regina at NASCAR’s final race of the 2017 season in Homestead-Miami and the project to bring her to Europe was immediately put in motion.

"I was racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in Homestead-Miami and my truck was having engine problems. When I climbed out of the truck in the garage area Regina and Hubertus were standing nearby. We started talking and they told me they were team owners in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. I expressed interest in racing in the series and told them that if there were ever an opportunity, I would love to race with them," explained Cobb. "They are really the ones who went to work to make this a reality and I am very grateful for them."

For her first outing in the European NASCAR series, Cobb expects gain valuable experience and bring solid results to the German team.

"I am very excited and nervous because I want to do well for my team. My road course racing experience is limited to just two tracks," said Cobb. "It is important to for me to respect the equipment and my competitors. For my first race a top-10 finish would be a great goal. It is hard to know what to expect with so many unknown factors but I’d love to dream big and think about a podium finish. No matter what happens, I hope to return to the NWES later in the year to improve upon whatever this race brings."

Cobb will join German driver Justin Kunz at Racing Total. The 20-year-old moved to the German team for his third season in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and will pilot the #46 Chevrolet in both divisions in Spain.

"It’s amazing to represent Germany not just as driver but as a whole German team. The team spirit is perfect and I enjoyed working on the car during the winter with our guys," said Kunz, who finished sixth in points in 2017 in ELITE 2 with 1 top-5 and 9 top-10s. "My goal is to win my first race and I really look forward to meet Jennifer and work with her on track."

The first event of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series season will take place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain for the fifth consecutive year. The season-opening green flag will drop on April 14 at 1:30 pm CET.

Pilote et propriétaire d’équipe très expérimentée aux États-Unis, Cobb a pris part à 154 courses en NASCAR Camping World Truck Series et 30 en NASCAR XFINITY Series. La native du Kansas a rencontré le propriétaire de Racing Total Hubertus Heyman et sa femme Regina lors des finales des séries nationales NASCAR 2017 à Homestead-Miami. Le projet de la faire venir en Europe a immédiatement vu le jour.

"Je pilotais en NASCAR Camping World Truck Series à Homestead-Miami et mon truck a eu un problème moteur. Lorsque j’en suis sorti dans les garages, Regina et Hubertus se tenaient à proximité. Nous avons commencé à discuter et ils m’ont dit qu’ils étaient propriétaires en NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. J’ai exprimé mon intérêt à courir dans cette série et que s’il y avait une possibilité, j’aimerais que ce soit avec eux," a expliqué Cobb. "Ce sont eux qui son taller travailler pour que cela devienne une réalité et je leur en suis très reconnaissante."

Pour sa première course en NASCAR européenne, Cobb espère acquérir une expérience précieuse et apporter de solides résultats à l’écurie allemande.

"Je suis très heureuse et nerveuse, car je veux bien faire pour mon équipe. Mon expérience sur circuit routier se limite à deux circuits," a déclaré Cobb. "Il est important pour moi de respecter le matériel et mes concurrents. Pour ma première course un top 10 serait un super objectif. Il est difficile de savoir à quoi s’attendre avec autant d’inconnues, mais j’aimerais beaucoup rêver et penser à un podium. Peu importe ce qui arrive j’espère revenir en NWES plus tard dans la saison pour améliorer ce que cette course apporte."

Cobb rejoint le pilote allemand Justin Kunz au sein de la Racing Total. Le pilote de 20 ans arrive dans l’écurie allemande pour sa troisième saison en NASCAR Whelen Euro Series et pilotera la Chevrolet n°46 dans les deux divisions en Espagne.

"C’est incroyable de représenter l’Allemagne, pas seulement en tant que pilote, mais en tant qu’équipe allemande. L’esprit d’équipe est parfait et j’ai aimé travailler sur la voiture avec les gars pendant l’hiver," a déclaré Kunz, qui a terminé sixième du classement 2017 en ÉLITE 2 avec un top 5 et neuf top 10. "Mon objectif est maintenant de gagner ma première course et j’ai vraiment hâte de rencontrer Jennifer et de travailler avec elle sur la piste."

La première épreuve des NASCAR Whelen Euro Series se déroulera sur le circuit Ricardo Tormo de Valencia en Espagne, pour la cinquième année consécutive. Le premier drapeau vert sera agité le 14 avril à 13 h 30 CET.

Esperta pilota e team owner negli Stati Uniti, Cobb ha preso parte a 154 gare della NASCAR Camping World Truck Series e 30 della NASCAR Xfinity Series. "Sono loro quelli che sono dati incredibilmente da fare per far diventare il progetto una realtà e gli sono davvero grata."

Per la sua prima uscita nella NASCAR europea, Cobb si aspetta di fare preziosa esperienza e di portare al team tedesco dei risultati consistenti.

"Sono molto eccitata e nervosa perché voglio far bene per il mio team. La mia esperienza su circuiti stradali è limitata a due piste," ha detto la Cobb. E’ importante per me rispettare la vettura e i miei avversari. Per la mia prima gara una top-10 sarebbe un ottimo risultato. E’ difficile sapere cosa aspettarsi con così tanti fattori da considerare, ma mi piace sognare in grande e mirare al podio. In ogni caso, spero di tornare nella NWES più avanti, nel corso della stagione, per fare ancora meglio."

La Cobb avrà come compagno di squadra il pilota tedesco Justin Kunz. Il ventenne si è trasferito al team Racing Total per la sua terza stagione nella NASCAR Whelen Euro Series e in Spagna guiderà la Chevrolet #46 in entrambe le divisioni.

"E’ fantastico rappresentare la Germania non solo come pilota, ma come team. Lo spirito tra di noi è perfetto e mi è piaciuto molto lavorare con i meccanici sulla vettura durante l’inverno," ha detto Kunz, che ha chiuso il campionato al sesto posto nel 2017 nella divisione ELITE 2 con 1 top-5 e 9 top-10. "Il mio obiettivo è vincere la mia prima gara e non vedo l’ora di incontrare Jennifer e lavorare con lei in pista."

Il primo evento della stagione della NASCAR Whelen Euro Series si terrà al Circuit Ricardo Tormo di Valencia, in Spagna per il quinto anno consecutivo. La bandiera verde sventolerà sulla prima gara della stagione il 14 aprile alle 13:30 CET.
