RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Four-time Riverhead Raceway winner and season points leader Justin Bonsignore led the way in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice Saturday afternoon at the Long Island bullring.
Bonsignore turned in a fast lap of 11.827 seconds (76.097 mph) in the 75-minute session to lead the 30 cars entered for tonight’s Buzz Chew Auto Group 200. The Holtsville, New York, native has won three of the last six Whelen Modified events at Riverhead, and three of six overall this year.
RACING-REFERENCE: PRACTICE RESULTS
Doug Coby, in search of his first Riverhead victory, was second on the practice chart at 11.905 (75.598) followed by Ryan Preece at 11.921 (75.497). Preece is a four-time Riverhead victor, the last coming in 2013.
Dave Sapienza, Rob Summers, Chris Pasteryak, Craig Lutz, Ronnie Williams, Chase Dowling and Tom Rogers Jr. rounded out the top 10.
Qualifying is set for 6 p.m. with the Buzz Chew Auto Group 200 set to go green at approximately 8 p.m.
