RIVERHEAD, N.Y. – Justin Bonsignore has had a career-best start to the 2018 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season, and Saturday is shaping up for him to continue that trend at Riverhead Raceway.
Fastest in practice, the season points leader from Holtsville, New York, backed it up in qualifying to capture the Buzz Chew Auto Group 200 pole with a fast lap of 11.934 seconds (75.415). It was the seventh career pole for Bonsignore – winner of three of the season’s first six events – but the first at the quarter-mile Riverhead, his home track.
Timmy Solomito, who swept the two Whelen Modified events at Riverhead in 2017, qualified second at 11.976 (75.150). Ryan Preece, a four-time Riverhead victor, was third at 11.979 (75.131).
Doug Coby, Craig Lutz, Tom Rogers Jr., Kyle Ellwood, Chase Dowling, Rob Summers and Dave Sapienza brought home the top 10.
The Buzz Chew Auto Group 200 will go green at approximately 8 p.m.
