PRACTICE: Derek Thorn Quickest in Shortened Evergreen Session

MONROE, Wash. — Derek Thorn was quickest in an abbreviated practice session on Saturday afternoon from Evergreen Speedway in preparation for the NAPA 175 presented by the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame.

The Lakeport, California native and current championship points leader turned a 23.507-second circuit around the 0.625-mile oval on his fifth of 22 laps. He’s amassed seven top fives and eight top 10’s this season driving the No. 6 Sunrise Ford for Bob Bruncati. His worst finish this season came at Sonoma Raceway, where he finished eighth and is coming off a second-place result at Iowa Speedway.

Derek Kraus (23.589), Kody Vanderwal (23.625), Cole Rouse (23.810) and Hailie Deegan (23.829) rounded out the top five speeds. Ryan Partridge, Tyler Tanner, Matt Levin, Trevor Huddleston and Todd Souza completed the top 10.

RACING-REFERENCE: PRACTICE RESULTS

Originally, there was slated to be two 45-minute practice sessions with a 15-minute break between them. However, rain forced a 15-minute delay to the initial session. Rain then interrupted the session at the 40-minute mark, where the red flag was displayed. Practice was deemed over at that point due to time constraints and the wet race track.

Deegan ran the most laps (28) in the session, with Levin running 26. Nick Joanides and Armani Williams both ran the least amount of circuits (five) in the 40-miniute session.

Group qualifying for the NAPA 175 presented by the West Coast Stock Car Hall of Fame is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the green flag for the 175-lap, 109.375-mile event flying at 6:30 p.m.
