PRACTICE: Sam Mayer Sets Early Pace at Dover

Dover, Del. – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East has made its way to Dover International Speedway for the final stop of the 2018 campaign. In Friday’s one and only practice session, it was Sam Mayer who topped the charts in preparation for the Crosley 125.

Mayer was among the top five throughout the entirety of the session before taking his No. 41 Menards Toyota to the top of the board in the winding minutes of practice with a time of 22.906 seconds (157.164 mph).

The Franklin, Wisconsin, driver is making his first career start at the Monster Mile, a race that will mark the sixth of his young K&N Pro Series career. Mayer has one top five this season which came on a road-course at Watkins Glen.

Tyler Ankrum was second fastest with a time of 22.921 seconds. Ankrum has already clinched the series championship coming into tonight’s finale after a season that saw the DGR-Crosley driver go to Victory Lane four times. He will look to cap off an already incredible season with another win later tonight.

Tristan Van Wieringen posted the third quickest time in the session with a lap of 22.958 seconds. Van Wieringen has been behind the wheel of the Rette-Jones Racing No.30 for the last six K&N Pro East events but has yet to post a top five finish, something that he will look to change later today.

Brandon McReynolds and Anthony Alfredo were fourth and fifth fastest, respectively. McReynolds is fresh off of his first K&N Pro East win at New Hampshire two weeks ago.

The top ten was completed by Dillon Bassett, Ronnie Bassett Jr, Ryan Vargas, Harrison Burton and Derek Kraus.

Teams will return to the track for group qualifying at 1:20 p.m. ET followed by the Crosley 125 which is set to go green at 5:00 p.m.
