LAS VEGAS — Austin Reed is putting the K&N Pro Series West field on notice.
After laying down the quickest lap in practice, the 26-year-old Bakersfield, California native dominated his heat race, leading from start to finish and earning his first career series pole.

“They were giving me times at the end, just trying to maintain,” he said. “Maintain a constant pace, that’s what we’ve been working on. The biggest thing for the feature is going to be who can stay the most consistent. I honestly don’t know if it’s going to be the fastest car that wins it, just the most consistent one who runs the best laps.”

Reed started 17th at Las Vegas last season, eventually earning an 11th-place result. Following Reed across the finish line in the first heat was Matt Levin, Todd Souza, Kody Vanderwal and Rob Powers.
New Smyrna victor Derek Kraus also dominated and won his heat, leading every lap. He will roll off second beside Reed, the same spot he started last season. Jagger Jones, Tony Toste, Hailie Deegan and Tim Surgeon followed the Stratford, Wisconsin native to the checkered flag.
Reed, Kraus, Levin, Jones and Souza will roll off inside the top five, with Toste, Vanderwal, Deegan, Powers and Spurgeon completing the top 10 starters.
Joey Tanner will start 15th after spinning early in heat one. Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Brittney Zamora will roll off 16th in her first dirt track start of her career.
RACE CENTER: Star Nursery 100
The green flag for the Star Nursery 100 is scheduled to fly at 9:45 p.m. The race will be live streamed on FansChoice.TV beginning at 9:30 p.m. Sheldon Creed is the defending winner of the event.
