QUALIFYING: Gary Klutt Smashes Track Record En-Route to CTMP Pole

BOWMANVILLE, Ont —It was said during pre-season testing that the new General Tires build up grip quicker and are much faster out on track. Gary Klutt confirmed that theory.

The 26-year-old from Halton Hills, Ontario set a lap time of 1 minute 21.962 seconds (108.006mph) to claim his third career E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award. Klutt’s No.59 Trailcon Leasing Dodge smashed the track record of 1.22.521 set back in 2017 by Sunday’s second place starter Kevin Lacroix.

Lacroix set a time of 1:22.153 (107.755) and will look for his fourth career CTMP victory. Third place will be owned by Alex Tagliani. The most recent CTMP winner circled the 2.459 mile road course with a time of 1:22.240 (107.641).

Fourth place starter Marc-Antoine Camirand was the last driver to break the previous track record in this session, he will be followed by Andrew Ranger to complete the top five.

Pete Klutt and defending Series Champ LP Dumoulin will role of sixth and seventh, respectively.

2017 Champ Alex Labbe, Jason Hathaway and D.J Kennington round out the top ten starters.

Joe Gibbs Racing development driver Riley Herbst will roll of the grid 15th.

The green flag for the Clarington 200 will drop at 1:30 p.m.
