With the August swing in full gear, the NASCAR Pinty’s Series teams head to Riverside International Speedway for the Bumper to Bumper 300.
Last week, the 50th anniversary of GP3R saw an incredible storyline where LP Dumoulin won for the second time this season. Making it even more special, the win came in the 50th year of Dumoulin Competition. Standing tall on the podium with his brother JF, fans might not have noticed a few other storylines brewing ahead of the Pinty’s Series annual trip east.
What to Watch for at Riverside
Fans across the world have watched two of Canada’s heavyweights battle it out all season long. From Quebec to Alberta, the battle has raged on. This week fans in Nova Scotia get to bear witness to a potential championship deciding race.
Kevin Lacroix trails Andrew Ranger by only 14 points, an easily surmountable margin given the remaining races. However, Ranger has been strong at Riverside in the past and is going to do whatever it takes to cleanly keep Lacroix behind him.
Riverside has an impressive streak of champions winning at their track. Since 2015, the eventual series champion has claimed victory at the facility. With title defining races happening three of those four years.
2016: Ranger is no stranger to close championship fights. In 2016, it was Ranger vs rookie phenom Cayden Lapcevich. Ranger looked strong before a mechanical problem ended his day. Lapcevich went on to win the race and then the championship in September.
2017: One of the most explosive races at Riverside. Lacroix vs Labbe round four, culminated with Labbe winning in the final turn and Lacroix incurring a 10-point penalty after spinning Labbe after the checkered. Labbe went on to win the championship.
2018: Another dominant run by Kevin Lacroix was foiled, this time by LP Dumoulin. Dumoulin passed Lacroix close to the end and lead the rest of the way. As the fans know, Dumoulin claimed his second championship that fall in Hamilton.
