RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — Three straight wins later at Riverhead Raceway, Justin Bonsignore isn’t slowing down one bit. The Holtsville, New York, driver, and defending NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion, was fastest in the only practice of the day on Saturday ahead of the Miller Lite 200 at the New York oval.
Bonsignore toured his home track with a fast lap of 11.761 seconds (76.524 mph), besting the rest of the 30-car field. He has a total of seven wins at the track where he cut his teeth racing Modifieds in their NASCAR Whelen All-American Series class.

In the final seconds of the 75-minutes session, former series champion Ron Silk, who has three wins this season, jumped to second on the speed charts. Silk drove the No. 85 Stuart’s Automotive Chevrolet for a lap of 11.798 seconds (76.284 mph) around the quarter-mile.
Doug Coby, who is looking for his first career Riverhead win, but leads the Whelen Modified Tour championship standings entering the event, was third. Craig Lutz and John Beatty Jr. completed the top five.
Patrick Emerling was sixth, followed by Eric Goodale, Matt Swanson, Timmy Solomito and Roger Turbush.
Coby leads Bonsignore by 37 points entering the night, with Silk in third, 44 points back.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for the Miller Lite 200 at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. The 13th race of the season will air via a live stream on FansChoice.TV.
