QUALIFYING: Craig Lutz Earns Second Career Pole at Riverhead

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. — For the second time in his career, Craig Lutz will lead the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour field to green on Saturday night.

The Miller Place, New York, driver earned the second Mayhew Tools Dominator Pole Award of his career at Riverhead Raceway, posting the fast time in qualifying ahead of the Miller Lite 200.

The quick lap for the No. 46 Riverhead Building Supply Chevrolet was a time of 11.821 seconds (76.136 mph) around the quarter-mile.

Lutz will be joined by Justin Bonsignore on the front row for Saturday’s 13th race of the season. Bonsignore was fastest in practice, and qualified in the second spot with a time of 11.854 seconds (75.924 mph). He’s been to Victory Lane in the last three Whelen Modified Tour races at Riverhead.

RACING-REFERENCE: Miller Lite 200 Qualifying Results

Timmy Solomito posted his best qualifying effort of the year, a third, while Doug Coby and Ron Silk completed the fast five.

Riverhead regular Tom Rogers Jr. was sixth, while Patrick Emerling, Eric Goodale, Chuck Hossfeld and track NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points leader Kyle Soper completed the top 10.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to the track for the Miller Lite 200 at 8 p.m. on Saturday evening. The 13th race of the season will air live via a stream on FansChoice.TV.
