PRACTICE: Sam Mayer Paces Dover Session

DOVER, Del. — Championship aside, Sam Mayer has one more box to check off in 2019.

And he seems in prime position to do so, as his No. 21 Chevrolet Accessories Chevrolet for GMS Racing was quickest in practice for the General Tire 125 at Dover International Speedway on Friday afternoon.

His quick lap (23.251 seconds) came on his 19th of 31 laps in the 80-minute session. Mayer needs to finish 27th or better to clinch the 2019 K&N Pro Series East championship, and will do so once the green flag flies at 5 p.m. EDT today.

DGR-Crosley teammates Todd Gilliland (23.459), Tanner Gray (23.467) and Drew Dollar (23.616) posted the second, third and fourth quickest speeds, respectively, with Chase Cabre (24.043) rounding out the top five.

Defending Dover winner Ruben Garcia Jr., Spencer Davis, Brandon McReynolds, Max McLaughlin and Justin S. Carroll completed the top 10.

Racing-Reference: PRACTICE RESULTS

There were no cautions in the session, but McLaughlin lost an engine. His Hattori Racing Enterprises team will change it in preparation for the remainder of the day.

Stefan Parsons did not practice in the session.

Group qualifying for the General Tire 125 is slated to begin at 12 p.m. EDT from Dover, with the green flag set to fly at 5 p.m. FansChoice.TV will have live coverage of the event.
